给旧金山市长的公开信 An Open Letter to Mayor Breed
旧金山市长London Breed马上要去上海访问了，她会去乌鲁木齐中路看看吗？听说她想让复旦大学来旧金山市中心开分校，据说这是旧金山都市复兴计划的一部分？听说她一直在谋求可能带两只熊猫回湾区，放在旧金山动物园招揽游客？擦星星事务所昨晚给她写了封公开信.....
据报道，时任旧金山市长的London Breed将率团于今天4月13日启程前往中国访问，除了上海，还会到香港、深圳、广州和北京。在早些时候她多次向北京发信，希望北京能够引进两头大熊猫到旧金山动物园安家，以吸引更多游客。Breed 还会与复旦大学的领导会面，她说复旦大学有意在旧金山开设分校，她希望复旦可以在旧金山市中心选址，以改善那里的办公楼空置率和人口迁出情况。
为了表达我们对此事的高度关切，擦星星事务所连夜起草了一份公开信。我们呼吁市长在访问中国期间询问两位在押政治犯的处境和案件进展，并向上海市政府官员表达湾区华人对他们二位的高度关切和问候。
Reportedly, the then Mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, will lead a delegation on a visit to China starting today, April 13th. Apart from Shanghai, she will also visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Earlier, she had sent multiple letters to Beijing, hoping that Beijing could introduce two pandas to settle in the San Francisco Zoo to attract more tourists. Breed will also meet with the leadership of Fudan University. She stated that Fudan University intends to establish a campus in San Francisco, and she hopes Fudan can select downtown San Francisco to improve the vacancy rate of office buildings and the outflow of population there.
To express our profound concern about this matter, Star Shiner hastily drafted an open letter. We call on the Mayor to inquire about the situation and case progress of two detained political prisoners： during her visit and convey the deep concern and regard of the Bay Area Chinese community to them.
亲爱的Breed市长，
敬颂钧安。我是一位旧金山市民，我谨代表擦星星事务所——一个为旧金山湾区的华语社群服务的草根组织，我们致力于华语世界的人权倡导工作。在您即将访问旧金山姐妹城市上海之际，我敦促您就中国的人权问题进行表态，并向上海官员传达我们对阮晓寰和陈品霖案件的关切。
旧金山向来以自由和民主的坚定承诺而闻名世界，并在国际舞台上享有重要地位。在您未来几天与上海官员的交流中，准确反映这些你我共同珍视的价值观至关重要。
令人担忧的一个案件是阮晓寰的遭遇，他在网络上被广泛称为"编程随想"。阮先生是一位批评中共领导人和中国政治腐败现象的博客博主，2021年在上海的家中被捕。他对开放互联网自由获取信息的基本权利倡导工作，导致了他被捕并被判七年徒刑，这凸显了中国基本人权现状和持续挑战。

Dear Mayor Breed,
I hope this message finds you well. I am a concerned San Francisco resident and I am writing on behalf of Star Shiner, a grassroots organization serving the Chinese-speaking community in the San Francisco Bay Area and advocating for human rights in China and beyond. As you prepare for your upcoming visit to Shanghai, a sister city of San Francisco, I urge you to address the human rights issues in China and communicate our concerns regarding the cases of Ruan Xiaohuan and Chen Pinlin to officials in Shanghai.
San Francisco, known for its strong commitment to freedom and democracy, holds a unique position to influence global partners. It is crucial that during your interactions in Shanghai, you reflect the values we cherish.
One distressing case involves Ruan Xiaohuan, widely recognized online as Program Think. Mr. Ruan, a blogger critical of CCP leadership and corruption within Chinese politics, was arrested at his home in Shanghai. His advocacy for the fundamental right to access information on a free and open internet led to his arrest and seven-year prison sentence, underscoring the ongoing struggle for basic human rights in China.
Additionally, I wish to highlight the case of Chen Pinlin, director of the "White Paper Revolution" documentary, which depicted the harsh zero-COVID lockdowns in Shanghai. Mr. Chen was arrested by local authorities after publishing his documentary online, a clear violation of free speech and press freedom. He remains incarcerated, awaiting trial for merely reporting the truth. StarShiner has been organizing public screenings of Chen’s documentary, with recent events in San Francisco’s Chinatown and on the UC Berkeley campus attracting over 200 Bay Area residents to sign in and attend in person. We will have two more screening events next week in Saratoga and UC Davis.
Our sister city relationships must be built on mutual respect for human rights. I trust that you will advocate for these values during your visit and discuss these critical issues with Shanghai city officials.
Thank you for your attention to these pressing matters. I look forward to your leadership in promoting the values of freedom and democracy abroad.
